Minnesota Timberwolves® Utilize Hypertension Diagnostics’ CVProfilor® for Annual Physical Examinations

ST. PAUL, MNOctober 16, 2001 – Hypertension Diagnostics, Inc. (NASDAQ SmallCap: HDII) announced today that the Minnesota Timberwolves® professional basketball team utilized the CVProfilor® DO-2020 CardioVascular Profiling System as part of the team’s annual physical examinations, which were performed recently.

“The Timberwolves Team is the first professional sports organization to use the CVProfilor® System in their routine health assessment. We are pleased to see their interest in providing a baseline health status of the team’s cardiovascular system,” said Greg H. Guettler, HDI President.

Jay N. Cohn, M.D., Professor of Medicine in the Cardiovascular Division at the University of Minnesota and Medical Advisor to HDI, reviewed the team’s CVProfiles™ with Timberwolves' team physician, Sheldon R. Burns, M.D. “Maintaining the team’s health is one of the ways for us to ensure a winning team. The CVProfilor® provides us with additional information that we can use to make certain that our team is one of the healthiest in the NBA,” said Dr. Burns.

“Cardiovascular disease is the single largest cause of death in the United States,” commented Dr. Cohn. “High blood pressure is very common in our society and an arterial health assessment provides a good indication as to whether or not an individual is at early risk. Many people have inherited risk and do not realize it until it’s too late. The CVProfilor® provides an early indication of risk even before overt signs such as high blood pressure appear. The CVProfilor® is a test that everyone – even athletes – can benefit from,” added Dr. Cohn.

Hypertension Diagnostics, Inc. designs, develops, manufactures and markets proprietary cardiovascular profiling systems for medical applications and clinical research.  These systems are marketed to physicians, other health care professionals and researchers by a direct sales force and via distributors throughout the world. In addition to providing blood pressure values, the systems non-invasively detect subtle changes in the compliance or elasticity of both large and small arteries which is a unique feature of HDI’s technology.
