Announces Effectiveness of Registration Statement

ST. PAUL, MNAugust 28, 2000 – Hypertension Diagnostics, Inc. (Nasdaq SmallCap: HDII; HDIIW; HDIIU) announced today the effectiveness on August 25, 2000 of its registration statement registering 1,568,175 shares of its common stock. The shares being registered relate to placement agent’s and underwriter’s warrants (532,900 shares) and options granted outside of the Company’s 1995 and 1998 Stock Option Plans (1,035,275 shares). Of the 1,568,175 shares registered, 1,503,713 are shares underlying warrants and options that have not been exercised. Additionally, 649,257 of the registered shares are subject to lockup restrictions imposed by the State of Minnesota, until July 23, 2001. The Company is not receiving any proceeds from the sale of the shares being registered.
