Hypertension Diagnostics Establishes Distribution in India

ST. PAUL, MN July 23, 2002 – Hypertension Diagnostics, Inc. (“HDI”) (Nasdaq SmallCap: HDII), today announced that the Company has established an exclusive distribution relationship with Invatech Global Consulting Inc., in liaison with Conchem India Private Ltd., headquartered in Pune, India, for distribution of the HDI/PulseWave™ CR-2000 Research System and the CVProfilor® MD-3000 System throughout India, Nepal, Bhutan, Shrilanka, and Bangladesh.

“Despite being a worldwide problem, cardiovascular disease is a particularly severe problem in India, a nation of one billion people,” said Greg H. Guettler, President of Hypertension Diagnostics. “India has the largest number of people with hypertension, diabetes and coronary artery disease of any other country in the world. Almost two out of three people in urban areas and three out of four in rural regions have diabetes but are unaware of their disease. More than 35% of the Indian urban population is estimated to suffer from hypertension. Invatech Global Consulting is offering the CVProfilor® MD-3000 System to Indian physicians for the early clinical diagnosis, treatment and management of cardiovascular disease at a critical time in India as physicians work toward reducing the long-term complications of this deadly disease,” added Guettler.

“Risk factors such as high blood pressure, elevated blood cholesterol and diabetes do not produce any symptoms in the early stages,” said Vinay Chhatre, President of Invatech Global Consulting Inc. “The CVProfilor® MD-3000 System is a painless, non-invasive, accurate and cost-effective technology for the early identification of cardiovascular disease in this high risk population. We have good relations with physicians, major hospitals, pharmaceutical companies and prominent clinics that specialize in diabetes and heart disease, and we are eager to begin distribution of the CVProfilor® MD-3000 System. Since high blood pressure and diabetes are so prevalent, we see HDI’s technology playing a key role in identifying and treating these diseases,” added Mr. Chhatre.

Hypertension Diagnostics, Inc. designs, develops, manufactures and markets proprietary cardiovascular profiling systems for medical applications and clinical research. These systems are marketed to physicians, other health care professionals and researchers by a direct sales force and via distributors throughout the world. In addition to providing blood pressure values, the systems non-invasively detect subtle changes in the compliance or elasticity of both large and small arteries which is a unique feature of HDI’s technology.
