Hypertension Diagnostics Adds Korean Distributor

ST. PAUL, MN June 27, 2002 – Hypertension Diagnostics, Inc. (“HDI”) (Nasdaq SmallCap: HDII), today announced the signing of an exclusive distribution agreement with J. Y. Trading Co. headquartered in Seoul, for distribution of HDI products throughout South Korea.

“Korea represents a sizable and strategic market opportunity for HDI, and J. Y. Trading Co. is experienced in working with American firms and in introducing medical technologies to physicians in Korea,” said Greg Guettler, President of Hypertension Diagnostics. “Cardiovascular disease (strokes and heart attacks) is the leading cause of death in Korea and the majority of these deaths occur under 65 years of age. Of the approximate 47 million people living in South Korea, 25 percent of the adult population (35-59 years old) suffer from hypertension and 5 percent suffer from diabetes,” added Guettler.

J. Y. Trading Co. was founded during 1995 and currently distributes through its six medical sales employees and ten independent sales representatives. “J. Y. Trading Co. is dedicated to the distribution of high quality medical products for cardiovascular disease,” said Jung-Yul Kim, President of J. Y. Trading Co. “We have good relations with our physicians in many major hospitals and prominent clinics that specialize in diabetes and heart disease, and we are eager to begin distribution of the CVProfilor® System following Korean Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) approval. “Since high blood pressure and diabetes are among the top five major diseases, we see HDI’s technology playing a key role in Korea’s future,” added Mr. Kim.

Hypertension Diagnostics, Inc. designs, develops, manufactures and markets proprietary cardiovascular profiling systems for medical applications and clinical research. These systems are marketed to physicians, other health care professionals and researchers by a direct sales force and via distributors throughout the world. In addition to providing blood pressure values, the systems non-invasively detect subtle changes in the compliance or elasticity of both large and small arteries which is a unique feature of HDI’s technology.
